Gold Coast QLD Orthodontics
Want to achieve that beautiful, straight smile you have always dreamed of? Orthodontic treatment strives to improve the function and appearance of your smile.
At Advanced Dental Care Clinic, our aim with orthodontic treatment is to provide harmony and balance between the teeth, muscles and jaw joints of the head and neck to allow freedom for the body to function optimally.
We believe it’s about more than just straight teeth, although this is an added benefit. If your teeth don’t fit together properly, you can have problems not only with your teeth themselves, but also the gums, the temporomandibular joint or the muscles that move your jaw. These problems are called ‘occlusal’ problems.
Your treatment
Treatment is individualised for each person, meaning it will address and treat your individual concerns. Before your treatment commences you will be briefed on the plan and talked through each step. The team at Advanced Dental Care Clinic will always aim to involve their patients within the plan as much as possible. We offer our patients neuromuscular orthodontics, which creates a more holistic approach to orthodontics as it aims to realign jaw joints, facial bones and tissues and teeth. With this treatment braces are the refinement and finishing of the occlusion and as a result we aim to have our patients wearing braces for less time.
Neuromuscular Orthodontics
Neuromuscular orthodontics aims to realign the jaw joints, facial bones and tissues and teeth. Many times appliances are used or orthopaedic treatment applied before braces are placed. Appliances are sometimes removable and full co-operation in wearing as directed is needed for the best results.
Braces
Braces are a combination of brackets and wires attached to the front of your teeth, which work by asserting gentle pressure on your teeth and over time moving them into their desired positions. Braces may be made of either steel or ceramics (which is much more discrete for aesthetic purposes). The length of the treatment will depend on how far the teeth need to be moved. Some treatments can take a few months while there are other cases that need years of treatment. Many times, elastics are also needed. Full co-operation in wearing elastics is very important.
Long Term Treatment
Once braces are removed; treatment will be complemented by the use of retainers, which basically continue the process of correcting occlusion for better dental appearance and jaw position.
There are 2 types of retainers, either removable or fixed.
- The removable retainer is a clear plastic that fits snugly over the teeth.
- The fixed retainers are a small wire strand that is hidden behind the front teeth.
